I confess that despite being a huge fan in my teens I did not enjoy Rod Stewart’s performance. Sometimes knowing when to stop can be a good thing! Thank you for the introduction to Ann Bridges.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I always think how one would react if someone you know locally, 80 years old, dressed and looked like that. I mean, you’d just laugh, wouldn’t you?
I hope you enjoy it. It may not be to everyone’s taste because of the cultural mores of the period (the upper class British abroad etc), but I loved it!
I wonder if letter writing will revive / survive. I write fewer than I did.
Since my mother died I have had great pleasure in reading letters sent to her ( some by me ).
In the family we have quite a stack of letters including those written by my paternal grandfather in the fist two decades of the twentieth century.
My mother in law ( 1918 to 2012 ) was also a great letter writer, and we have some from her too.
…or settling down to read a letter (remember them)
How I wish people still wrote letters….
I’ve still got a small collection of letters sent to me when I first left home…
I enjoyed your post June - it was like having a chat with a friend in the garden over a cup of tea….
Oh, that’s so nice! Thank you!

I hadn’t really thought of it like that but probably!
I loved Peepshow. Look forward to reading your thoughts!
Thank you for the Peking Picnic recommendation - straight on to my to be read list!

I can handle quite a bit of upper class British abroad in literature (or American if Henry James) - especially if they shock with bad behaviour.
The Ann Bridges book sounds very interesting. She also sounded like she lived a very fruitful life.
I loved it!
Telegrams in latin? Gosh, how times have changed!
Indeed.
Thank you for this mention, and I'm so glad you liked Ann, I plan to find another one soon.
peking Picnic I would say is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I’m off on a buying spree now!
Love to read you weaving "After the Goldrush" into this reflection! (One of my favourite records .. .) Hang in there with the crazy heat.
It defined my middle teens....such a long time ago....
Even little “Cripple Creek Ferry” is a revelation…
Heart of Gold always my favourite. And, of course, Southern Man.
I was mesmerised by Outrageous and watched all 6 episodes - I loved it!
Oh good!
