I agree about bank holidays, although I have never lived near the seaside. As a nurse I became accustomed to working weekends and BHs, and soon realised that it was more fun to explore places on days off when everyone else was working.
Loved your account of your visit to Dartmoor and Widecombe and " old Uncle Tom Cobley " etc
Thanks, Celia. Yes, having days off in the week was always such a joy. Sadly now there are so many people who work from home that finding a part of the outdoors to oneself is increasingly difficult.
Oh, Widecombe: one of my favourite places on earth. The Rugglestone is the better of the two pubs, imo. What a climb up out of the valley on foot, though! x
How wonderful to be so close to Dartmoor, a favourite holiday destination from my youth. And I had to smile at the mention of Widecombe Fair as we had to sing that song during an AmDram show a few years ago. It was always such a challenge getting all the names out in the right order!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful photographs, June. Devon has been like a second home since I was twelve 💚
I just love Dartmoor. When you can get away from the popular areas, it’s such a tonic.
What a beautiful evocation of my home county, June! You're making me homesick!
Lovely Hay Tor! Makes me think of our old friend Agatha....
Yes indeed! Although EVERYWHERE in Devon makes me think of Agatha!
Her mysterious gift... Love your beautiful descriptions/pics
Thank you!

Sharon’s work is amazing isn’t it? So powerful and gives shivers. Your day out looks and sounds amazing June.
Thanks. This is the first of her books that I have read, but I am going o read more.

Agree about Rugglestone. Couldn't possibly walk out of village these days - hips wont allow it!
I’ll be honest, last time I nearly had to be hauled out in a wheelbarrow.
Haha!

I remember my Dad teaching us the rhyme when we were kids.
Your ripple pic is amazing, beautiful.
Thank you!
