I am glad you are feeling a little better. The Ballad of Peckham Rye is one of the few I have yet to read and it sounds as though I have a treat in store. I loved Edna O'Brien and do hope it is broadcast elsewhere in time. She was my first grown-up writer recommended by a very enlightened English teacher and I devoured them. A brilliant piece, June.
Sadly I can't access at the moment as there is a problem with my box, but will see if there is another way I can access it! ( Every pot I lifted yesterday had an and nest...)
Glad you are feeling better. Thanks for the fascinating synopsis of the O’Brien film. I will try to catch it. And I also love Peckham Rye better than Brodie. It’s so sharp and funny. I think it sits well next to Lolly Willowes
Good to know you are better. Yes, ants rule the world don't they?
Muriel Spark and Edna O'Brien - 20th century giants. Thank you for the wonderful portrait of the latter.

Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. SkyArts is free to view but I don’t know if it does catch-up.

Loved this post June, thank you. Pleased you are feeling better
Thanks, Gina.
I truly can’t wait to watch this film. I am so moved by Edna O’Brien’s writing. I see many similarities in rural Ireland and rural Missouri.
I hope you enjoy it!
So good to hear that you’re on the mend, June. A very interesting essay, I must reread Country Girls soon.
Thanks Maureen.
