I've just started Angela Thirkell's novels - and am so glad to have found them. They are an easy read - in the best meaning of that I think as they are very well written. I've frequently read comparisons of her writing to that of Barbara Pym (who I adore) but they aren't so suffused with a sort of sadness that Pym's novels seem to me to carry. I think they are more in the vein of EM Delafield .. hope the gorgeous rose arrives safely and still in bloom !

Good luck with the new car! It's been a about fiteen years since I owned one. When I occasionally rent, I am always wary of fancy features that might take the entire duration of the hire to get used to.

So glad to learn of Thirkell... (And good riddance to the gas guzzlers, in the end, however convertibled and charismatic!)

I read somewhere that Angela Thirkell attended Elizabeth II’s wedding because the Queen Mum loved her books so much. I love them too. They are funny and restful and gently Christian. The characters do the ´right’ thing and are rewarded! These days too often the selfish thing is confused with the right thing in my opinion.

Lovely piece, June. I see many more Angela Thirkell in my future...

Great job on the crochet…it gets easier, so keep it up.

Well done with the coasters. For years I used to hold the yarn in my right hand when I crocheted as though I was knitting. In the days before YouTube could tell me that was incorrect.

The yellow rose is a beauty.

Yes! I was doing the right hand thing at first for the chains and for the first few stitches!
